Our first day in Merida was spent starting the temporary visa process started, getting a new SIM chip for my old unlocked iPhone 3GS (for a Mexican mobile number), setting up in our rental house (around the corner from our new house) and finding coffee (the most essential element of any first day.)
To the left you can see our new facade with the final color scheme and our carved stone glyph as designed by Kurt Mueller (one of our old friends in south Tyrol Hills.) Yet to come is the “buzon” (letter box)–which will be contained within a custom stainless steel box that will have the raised Richard Neutra typeface numbers (567) and the Danish door bell. We debated the color scheme for quite sometime–and even painted test swatches on our last trip. The dilemma is the interplay of the city lights and the natural light on the paint color–and, of course, the difference between night and day. Added to this is the impact of our all LED lighting scheme. After looking things over today and this evening, we think we made a good choice.
That glyph is hot stuff. the facade is very very nice. I drive by a few times a week and someday I will pop in!
